WHY ARE THERE CRACKS IN MY DRY-WALL? CHIROPRACTIC AND ADJUSTING THE EXTREMITY
I routinely adjust knees, feet shoulders etc..and for many reasons but most importantly it’s to keep them moving and functioning properly to accept force and reduce inflammation.
There are indicators that would lead me to check specifics but we are reacting to problems at that point and I like to be preventative. I also clear out misalignment up the spine first so brain & body are talking before I branch out to the extremity. If the central nervous system is stressed or overloaded, helping its periphery is pointless in my opinion. For example, if the shoulder has decreased range of motion, asymmetry, inflammation, reduced joint motion/play, tenderness etc.. I want to make sure the nerves branching from spine that control shoulder function aren’t being aggravated or irritated. This would go for wrists, knees, or even feet.
We need to always make sure our nerves are functioning properly because everything is a servant to the nerve. Nerves influence all function in the body which is why as a Chiropractor I look there first. If your nervous system was in your feet, I would be looking there first but it’s in the spine so that’s our centre piece!
Off of the spine the single most important adjustment to have are adjustments at the BIG TOE! WHY you might ask ? The big toe is the first point of contact with the ground and accepts reaction forces FIRST!
If the spine is clear of restrictions and the big toe does not have a full range of motion prior to contact with the ground, the whole foundation of our house is uneven and can lead to problems built seemingly out of nowhere. Why are there cracks in my dry-wall? Your foundation has shifted and your weight bearing structures are no longer aligned in there proper angles. This leads to cracks in the dry-wall and foundation issues. foundation issues = increased inflammation = PAIN.
We see this a lot with runners (plantar fasciitis, hallux valgus, turf toe). If they had a full ROM at the big toe and ankle they would accept force up the chain and ultimately reduce the likelihood of non-traumatic injuries. That is what we’re all about!
Dr. Ben is located at 5663 Nora Bernard St. in Halifax and believes if we’re aligned, we all have what it truly takes to reach a pain-free lifestyle.
